Poor House Hospital was set up in 1960 under “The Beggar Act, 1959”, under the Social Welfare Department to provide medical care and Hospitalization to the beggars. It was merged with Aruna Asaf Ali Government Hospital in Late 1970’s. Poor House Hospital was earlier a 60 Bedded hospital with provision for 40 Beds for General Ward and 20 Beds for T.B. Ward. Presently it is functioning as a 20 Bedded hospital in the new building since April 2013. Expansion with the addition of a new Block for the Inpatients is under process.

Presently Services provided at Poor House Hospital include :

OPD Service

• To staffs working in Courts , CWC offices , Homes for Male beggar and Diseased (HMBD), Reception-cum-classification center (RCC) situated in Sewa Kutir Complex.
• To students and residents of Blind School and Hostel.
• To inmates at HMBD and RCC.

IPD Services

To chronically ill patients under detention .

Medical Examination

Patients brought from all over Delhi under The Beggar Act, 1959 by special Mobile Courts as well as special police persons and RCC.
